When The Temperature Rises, Does Your Spending Rise Too?

by Angela Marquis on June 24, 2015

Temperature risesWhen temperatures rises, does your spending rise too?  It can seem like winter lasts forever!  So when summer finally arrives with warmer temperatures we all want to get out, have some fun and enjoy the sun.  Being out and about can lead us to spend more.

Think about it, when the sun comes out and the months with warmer weather arrive they are often accompanied by graduations, weddings, baseball games, boating, vacations, golf, and barbecues as well as those plans we made during the winter for projects around the house and home/yard renovations.  Studies on spending habits of consumers show that apart from the Christmas season, during the winter months we spend less.  People spend more time indoors during the cold weather.  Most people can relate their budgets to temperatures. Think about it, the cool the temperatures, the cooler our spending!

Realizing we have a tendency to spend more in the summer months, we should take the time to make a budget to prepare for all those summer plans and fun so we don’t end up using credit cards and feeling the debt stress after.  Savings and spending need to go hand in hand. If you plan on entertaining more in the summer months, create a budget for it.  If you know you will take that trip in the summer, create a vacation fund and stash some cash away throughout the year.   Make your plans for the summer, enjoy them, but remember just because you want the summer temperatures to rise, doesn’t mean you want your debt to rise too.

If you’re reading this and saying to yourself, “wish I could save up for the summer spending”, call us at 519-310-PLAN and see what your options are so you can be debt free and get a fresh start.  You can plan for summer fun it’s just a call away.
